Strategy Tips - Reactor Siege (part3) - level 16

I'm not going to give a step-by-step guide to completing this mission. The key to this mission is thoughtful use of the defense drones (spider mines). So instead, I will give a few suggestions in this vein....

Around 50% of the Scay'Ger in this level are Tea'Ther. Their main weakness is that they can't move and attack in the same turn, a weakness you can exploit! In Fig.1 five Tea'Ther are being slowed down by just two drones. The picture shows the situation at the begining of the players move. All the player needs to do is move both drones back 1 space each turn to drastically slow the Scay'Gers chase.
Be aware of other Scay'Ger in the vacinity, missile firers or Dec'Ther are a problem. These can damage your defensive line of drones, thus allowing other Scay'Ger through. Cocentrate your attacks on these rather than the Tea'Ther. Generally speaking you shouldn't have to attack many Tea'Ther until the second half of the mission.

In Fig.2 one of the marines (Barracus) has become seperated from the main group after activating one of the drone deployment hatches. The Scay'Ger advance is just about to spill out into the larger area shown in the picture. If this happens Barracus will be come isolated and quickly killed.
Here, I decided it was neccessary to kill some Tea'Ther. I used a combination of weapons fire and drone attacks to kill the 3 Tea'Ther and all the Dec'Ther around the floor hole (the Dec'Ther lurking in the distance is too far away to be a threat). I then positioned as many drones as I could around the hole.
Fig.3 shows the situation after the Scay'Gers next move. Barracus is not in the clear yet and moves as fast as he can in the direction of the red arrow. I elected to kill the Tea'Ther closest to the marines and the Dec'Ther behind the other two Tea'Ther (whilst leaving these two Tea'Ther alone). I then withdrew all but three drones, who where left in positions indicated by the red dots. These 3 remaining drones will halt the Tea'Ther progress and also reduce the number of Scay'Ger deployed from the hole in the next turn. Note: If I don't kill the Dec'Ther it may destroy my 3 drones, thus allowing the Tea'Ther to advance further than I would like!

In the second half of the mission you will not only be holding back the Scay'Ger advance, you will also be required to fight your way through the enemy to get to the exit. It is very important that the positioning of your men does not hinder drone movement. Fig.4 shows the engineers have left a path so that drones can move pass them and advance in front of them.

When advancing the drones, pay careful attention to their movement. Fig.5 shows a situation where the player needs to fight through the Scay'Ger. An inexerienced player might use the drones at A to attack the Tea'Ther at C , thus leaving the drones at B too far away to attack the Scay'Ger at points D. Instead use the drones at B to attack C (being careful not to destroy the drones at A). Then use the drones at A to attack points D. Using the drones in this way can greatly extend your attack range. ....is that clear? No? Good.

If you get the chance, position drones around an entry hole, they will reduce the number of Scay'Ger that are deployed. If you don't have many drones to spare, positioning them as in Fig.6 is a good idea in the latter stages of the mission. Each drone here can attack (detonate) newly deployed Scay'Ger without detroying the other drones.
