This wad is exactly the same as my vanilla doom2 level 'Lego Base' with the exception that it contains some replacement sprites. The sprites were taken from Tom Cruickshank's 'Leggo Doom TC'. Tom's TC was for Doom (1) and, although i don't think it was ever officially abandoned, I somehow doubt it'll see the light of day anytime soon because Tom is very busy these days. And yes, Tom's TC is called 'Leggo Doom', so I assume it's spelt like that in his part of the world (or maybe he was trying to avoid legal problems :) Because Tom's TC was for the original Doom, it does not contain replacement sprites for the Doom2-exclusive monsters (archviles, pain elementals, etc). As a result this enhanced wad only contains sprite replacements for the monsters found in the original Doom (not all of them though, some monsters aren't found in this level). I wasn't too keen on the weapon graphics in Tom's TC (with the exception of the BFG). The same goes for most, but not all, of the sprites for the pick-up items. I've only used the BFG replacement sprites in this wad (these graphics were too cool to be left out). The player sprites are replaced too for the benefit of Deathmatchers and Co-op players. If anyone feels the urge to design additional replacement sprites for the Doom2 monsters or weapons I'd love to see them and, if they are good enough, I'll update the wad with them. This wad does NOT require the user to have my lego textures wad (legotex.wad). All the neccessary textures and flats are included in this wad. I've tried to make this level challenging from the outset. Most of the playtesters initially felt the beginning was too difficult, but once they ventured further into the map they all agreed that "it felt 'right' in terms of balance". I've toned things down slightly for the lower skill levels, but not by much. There will be a bit more health and ammo, maybe fewer monsters in places, but it should still be a challenge of sorts. The vanilla Doom version of this map, Lego Base, is available from the Doom2 section of my website at.... http://www.duellist.net A section of the original 'Lego Base' was removed after early playtesting because it was felt it was too different from the established style of the level. This removed section has been reworked slightly and is available as a small single player level entitled 'Deleted Scene 2' (deleted2.wad). You'll find this in the Doom2 section of my website (see the URL above). The music replacement is E2M1 from Doom. The lego tree images and the menu skull were also taken from Tom Cruickshank's lego sprites wad. -Russell Pearson (15th April 2002) email: rddp@duellist.net
