Back in the early 90's I'd just got my new 486 dx2/66. I had a game called Doom2 and I had a level editor that had come on a floppy disk attached to the cover of some magazine (probably PC Zone). I stated in an earlier text file that the levels included in doomtown.wad were the first levels I ever made. That was true, in so much as they were the first proper levels I made. But the first thing I ever created in a doom level editor was this mess. I was mainly experimenting with doom architecture. This is partly evident from the fact that only one or two textures are used. This level is almost completely Startan (the default texture of the editor) and no alignment whatsoever occurs. There are monsters in it, but very few pickup items. So it's not really playable. Also, as it's unfinished, there are also many areas that the player cannot get to, etc. I was rather surprised to find I still had a copy of this wad floating around. It was sitting on my harddrive under the filename w307.wad I really can't remember why it was called that but that's what it's called! The file was dated 03/01/1994 (uk dating, so thats 3rd January 1994). The only alteration I've made to this wad is to move the players starting position back to it's intended location. But that's still an alteration requiring a save, hence the wad is now dated 2006. Interestingly, in the late 90's I used the opening section of this wad as a base for another map called Ogre Labs. By sheer coincidence I dug up that level up a few weeks ago and have been working to finish it. So expect to see that uploaded in the next few weeks. That's about it. Don't expect too much from this wad. As I've said it's the first thing I ever built in a map editor. -Russell Pearson (22nd March 2006) email: rddp@duellist.net (put 'DOOM' in the subject title or your email may be accidently deleted as spam).
